CISED recognizes the immense challenges, and rewards, in scaling social impact.  We believe social enterprise can play a vital role in transformative social change in creating blended value for vulnerable Canadians.

The Centre for Innovative Social Enterprise Development, CISED, offers a continuum of supports for social enterprise in the city of Ottawa, including access to technical expertise, coaching, financing, learning communities, training, and cross-sector partnerships.

CISED’s initial four year strategy, launched in April 2009, formed as a collaborative of seven partners, lead by Causeway Work Centre to achieve this vision, with the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

As of April 1, 2013, CISED became a federally incorporated not for profit corporation and continues to provide supports to the community of existing and newly emerging social enterprises. Many of the individuals from the original collaborative have agreed to sit on the volunteer board of directors, and the staff support from the collaborative remains at the heart of the services offered by CISED. Having worked with over 100 clients on developing their social enterprise plans, CISED is a gateway to the social enterprise community of Ottawa and region.

We work in partnership with many actors in the social economy, including, but not limited to, the following:
